In the history, nearly all infants, regardless of gender wore dresses and there was no specific gender of clothes for infants. There was a unisex period in the 1970s among kids, with many catalogs from that decade presenting boys and girls in identical-looking pants. This trend was part of a larger movement to de-emphasize gender roles. Only in the 20th century did sex-specific clothing come into fashion, boys started wearing pants, while girls continued to wear dresses.

In the past, kids were kids, fashion was fashion back then. However, in the 21st century, things have changed, kids are the fashion icon now. For example, the Beckham's kids (Romeo Beckham) starred in the Burberry advertisements. Picture below showed Romeo Beckham (left) unveiled in the Burberry Spring advertisements for the first time.

Now, the children's fashion has becomes a multi-billions industry world-wide. Parents are willing to pay to make their kids look good. In Britain, the market for kids' fashion was estimated to be 6.5 Billion pounds, worldwide the figure is 10 times more than that. Moreover, there are many big players in the fashion industry such as Hugo Boss, DKNY and Karl Lagerfeld has penetrated into this multi-billion industry. In 2013, the first ever Global Kids' Fashion Week was held in London. It was like any other high fashion cat-walk show, but with only one small difference which was the models are all kids. Pictures below were captured during the event (taken from Google image)

From this point, we could see that the kids' fashion industry is really expanding and there are rooms for this industry to keep growing which is a good thing because in the future we might be seeing good personality visually on the street even he/she is a kid because we always said first impression is very important.
Thank you for spending your precious time reading, on the next post we will be looking at the growing kids' fashion industry in Malaysia..
