Children's fashion industry in Malaysia : Trends

Childrenswear styles in Malaysia continued to favour casual with lots of jeans, trousers and shorts for boys, dresses, blouses and leggings or even shorts for girls. Due to the tropical climate condition in Malaysia where locals are exposed to year-long hot and humid weather, most childrenswear utilises the casual trend as primary design since it is more popular.


Moreover, the lower number of children in Malaysian households led to more parents being able to afford higher priced or premium childrenswear. However, Younger parents, especially those in employment for a long time, are marrying at a later age, while considering starting a family when they are financially stable. Most of them tend to have fewer children in the household compared to previous generations. Thus, many parents are able to afford higher priced or premium brands of childrenswear.

Moreover, parents in Malaysia could get their kids' apparel in any major deparmental store such as Aeon & Parkson. Parents are willing to break a hole in their wallet in order to make their kids look good in the public. Here are some of the brand of kids' apparels that targeted to middle-class parents that you could find in the departmental store in Malaysia

Snails & Sons is targeted to kid who aged 9 to 15 years old with slightly mature clothing design.

Kiko's unique selling point is their famous stripe and grid deisgn on their product.

Cartoon Netwok printed various cartoon onto their product to attract kids who aged 4 to 6 years old

Cartoon planet is targeted to kids who aged 3 to 6 years old with amazing cartoon printed on their product.

KIKILALA is specializing in product with attractive colors which targeted kids between 7 to 10 years old.

However, there are few brands that only bring in products to target adult have recently penetrated into kids fashion industry in Malaysia such as POLO, Hushpuppies, Superheros and Cheetah that targeted to middle-class earner and also can be found in Parkson departmental store.

Besides that, there are also premium kids brands that targeted to upper-class earner such as Pumpkin Patch and the store can only be found in lifestyle shopping mall such as Bangsar Village, Empire Subang, and Pavillion KL.

This is the Pumpking Patch outlet that located at Empire Subang.

Moreover, there is a newly opened luxury boutique for kids called "Kids' around" which located at The Gardens, Mid Valley City that targeted to Malaysia's rich and famous as well as celebrity. It is the first Kids' around store in Asia. Besides, Kids' around offered junior clothes from few big international brand such as Boss Hugo Boss, Timberland, Little Marc Jacob, DKNY, Karl Lagerfeld and serveral others. Kids' around has created a new category in Malaysia's kids' fashion industry.

Apart from that, Malaysia's largest online fashion store has also started to serve kids'' fashion to their online consumers.

With all the big players that penetrated into kids' fashion industry, can be seen that Malaysia's kids' fashion industry is growing rapidly and will be expanding in the future. It will become a significant industry that affect the economic growth in Malaysia.
